This antique locket features a coiled serpent rendered in rich, buttery gold with a luminous seed pearl held in its mouth and a tiny green gemstone set as the eye. The golden surface has a soft bloom over a rosy base, giving the metal a warm, aged patina that speaks to careful preservation over more than a century. The reverse is hand-engraved with a detailed pipe organ, a small work of art in its own right. Inside, a sentimental inscription reads "presented to H.J.F. Green, st johns choir, Easter 1901," dating this piece to the final year of the Victorian era. The serpent motif coils naturalistically across the face, and the overall effect is both personal and striking.
