This Victorian bracelet is carved from jet, a lightweight fossilized material prized in the nineteenth century for its deep black color and ability to take a high polish. The bracelet is made up of chunky faceted panels strung on elastic cord, creating a cuff-style silhouette that slips easily over the hand. Each panel is glossy black with a sculptural, architectural quality, and the faceting picks up light across the surface. The piece is wide and substantial in appearance but surprisingly light on the wrist — a characteristic unique to jet. At 1.5in wide, it has real presence without any heaviness.
