Edwardian Coral Psyche Butterfly Cameo Brooch in 10K Yellow Gold

This carved shell cameo brooch features a classical female portrait in cream on a soft orange hued ground of shell. The carving has a soft matte finish that highlights the dimensional work of the figure, and the 10 karat yellow gold frame has a rosy warmth to it. Engraved edging surrounds the oval bezel, giving the frame a finished, decorative border. A bail has been added to the pendant ring on the back, which appears to be a later addition, allowing the piece to be worn as either a brooch or pendant. The pendant features Psyche, and is beautifully carved with butterfly accents in the different places - both shoulders and in her crown.
