Antique Telescopic Pencil with Enamel Painted Figure in Grape Vines Propelling Pencil

Here is a wonderful and rare little telescopic pencil in a similar style to what was made by Fairchild companies. This uncommon little treasure looks like a beautifully painted tube, but when you carefully pull the looped end, the capsule elongates, and a telescopic mechanical pencil emerges! The pencil's body features a hand-painted enamel image of a child in a neoclassical dress holding up a chalice on a cream-colored ground. An ivy vine spirals around the base of the illustration. The back of the enamel is plain cream. The metal color is a warm gold tone, likely gold-filled base metal. This is a scarce and collectible little treasure. The pencil works but should be extended with care as it is over 100 years old. This would look amazing worn as a long pendant over a sweater or added to a chain—a lovely little treasure.

CONDITION Some wear to the gold plate on top and bottom and one small dent in the "bulb" area, barely noticeable. Minor/TINY age-related fleabites in enamel, nothing major. A lovely little piece of history!
